On 19th September 2014 a savage fire spread through the coastal resort of Viskop situated at the mouth of the Chefani river in Chintsa; fanned by a strong south-westerly wind the fire ripped through ten thatched houses of the total twenty-two in a matter of minutes. Luckily no-one was physically harmed in the fires but the homeowners suffered losses of a multitude of possessions as well as huge damages to their beautiful holiday homes.
