Shingles

Roof conversions that use shingles as the new roofing all use the Structure Stays system as our shingle supplier specifies that all thatch must be removed from the roof. Shingles are our premium roofing product and carry a lifetime product warranty.

Thatch Roof Conversion Projects – Roof Sheeting

Corrugated roof sheeting has real curb-side appeal and can be used to convert thatch roofs. It is better suited to roofs with simple designs such as the example below. We use AZ200 (or AZ150 inland) which is a lightweight aluzinc sheeting. The corrugated profile is the most popular and is available in a range of colours. Most of our clients choose “Thunderstorm” which is a dark grey colour.

We recommend using the Structure Stays system for this style of conversion – removing all of the thatch from the roof. When you choose to remove all of the thatch you also have the pleasure of choosing new ceilings for the inside of your home. Metal roof sheeting can be noisy in comparison to thatch so it’s important to design the roof with both noise reduction and thermal efficiency in mind.

Metrotile Roof Conversions

Metrotiles are lightweight tiles made out of aluzinc which are coated in natural stone chips. You can get them in a range of colours and profiles but we find that the Woodshake profile in either Pepper or Charcoal looks very similar to thatch when it is installed.

Metrotiles have some flexibility so they can be shaped to the shape of the original roof structure.
